Yahoo! News - Moore Film Title Angers Author Bradbury

Yahoo! News - Moore Film Title Angers Author Bradbury

A new edition of the book? And a remake of the movie? How coincidental! As a hug Bradbury fan, it pains me to see someone react so hypocritically. Why is it necessary for him to think that his title has been stolen, but instead be payed homage to? Has it been so long since he has written it, that he cannot see the similarities between his imagined future and our present time? Here is to hoping that Mr. Bradbury will take the time to see the film, and work things out with Michael Moore before he makes anymore a fool of himself that he already has.

Yahoo! News - Army Issues Order to Stop U.S. Soldiers from Leaving

Yahoo! News - Army Issues Order to Stop U.S. Soldiers from Leaving

Before I go off on a tirade about the conditions in Iraq & Afghanistan for both our troops and the local populous, there is something you should know about this story. There should have been an extra paragraph inserted which explains a typical enlistment. When someone comes off the street and signs up for active duty with one of our armed forces, the term is typically 8 YEARS, not 4. The term is broken in half - 4 active and 4 inactive. Inactive service can be converted to active service at the service's choice. Hence the "stop loss" order.

That being said, it is now more obvious than ever that the upper echelons at the US Army are either clueless about or merely turning a blind eye to the morale problems they are causing on the ground in these two areas (see previous blog: ) where I touch on the same subject.

Once again, I understand that these are volunteer service people, and that the military has the right to do what they will with these people. But that does not make it right. Do not be surprised to hear about more problems and further atrocities from these areas.

Yahoo! News - E-Mail Boosts Calls to Probe Halliburton, Cheney

Yahoo! News - E-Mail Boosts Calls to Probe Halliburton, Cheney

Did someone from the DNC read my earlier Blog?? Highly unlikely, but I'm still pretty happy about this development. With a story coming up in Time, enough coverage will be given, and an inquiry is bound to ensue. My guess is that no matter what the outcome, Mr. VP will undoubtedly, in the same vein as this administration with anything else negative, will not take any responsibility whatsoever.

Cheney's office denied over the weekend that it had any role in the Halliburton contracts, and a senior adviser to the Bush-Cheney campaign, Mary Matalin, repeated this on Tuesday.

Pentagon spokesman Larry DiRita noted that there had been congressional hearings on rebuilding Iraq which included discussions of reconstruction contracts.
He said the Pentagon e-mail was discussing how to announce a decision made months earlier to give Halliburton the no-bid contract, and that Cheney had no involvement in the decision.

I don't believe a word of it.

Yahoo! News - Kerry Vows Action on Threat of Nuclear Terrorism

Yahoo! News - Kerry Vows Action on Threat of Nuclear Terrorism

This is without a doubt the best line of the article:

But Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt welcomed Kerry's "embrace" of nonproliferation goals already laid out by the president.

More strategy problems as far as I can tell. This early in the campaign, it doesn't make any sense for the Kerry campaign to tip their hand. It seems to me that a much better strategy at this point would be to try and put the current administration on the defensive. Questions of impropriety in the Haliburton contracts in post-war Iraq, Sec of Defense and the Sec of Homeland Security still aren't on the same page, oil and gas at historic high prices... How much more fodder does he need? The bottom line is that between now and Labor Day, no one is really going to make up their mind on who to vote for, and that makes this the opportunity to try and put the president and his staff back on their heels. To continue to try and develop policy issues and answers at this point in the campaign only leaves them the chance to adopt them as their own.
